QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q1 WHAT ARE THE ATTRIBUTES OF KAMADHENU AND ITS ORGIN?
A1 Kamadhenu is also called SURABHI, SHAVAL, ADITI and KAMDUH. She is the mother
of all cows.
According to mythological accounts, Brahma created the Brahmins and the Cow at
the same time, the Brahmins were to recite Vedas and    scriptures while the cow
was to afford ghee (clarified butter) for burnt-offerings in religious
sacrifices.
(There is also legend that Kamadhenu came up during churning of Palazhi and it
was given to Indra)
The cow is deemed to be   the mother of gods and is declared by Brahma to   be
a proper object of worship.
Amongst orthodox Hindus she is worshipped on the first of VAISHAKH, when Brahma
created the cow.
A child born   under unlucky stars is passed under the body of a cow to offset
the effects.
Every part of cow's body has a religious significance. Its horns symbolize the
gods, its face the sun and the moon, its   shoulders Agni, the god of fire, and
its legs the Himalayas.
They graze in the fields and charagahs with what so ever is available and give
milk to the household. If they eat less they   give less milk. The cows are
hunger resistant, heat resistant and thrust resistant. In nutshell they can live
and survive with little of resources.
No Griha pravesam is complete with out cow and calf entering it at Muhurtha
time.
Q2 *WHAT IS THE COST OF ATM EQUIPMENT AND ITS MONTHLY MAINTANACE CHARGES?
A2 According to estimates, the average cost of setting up an ATM in urban
centres is Rs 7-8 lakh (Rs 700,000-800,000) and the monthly cost of operating it
comes to around Rs 50,000-60,000.
What is ATM standing for? Automatic teller machine or Any time money? My doubt
arises because when HSBC was British Bank of the Middle East it was written on
their cards ANY TIME MONEY. I have still preserved the card.
Q3 ** WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF FEEDING CROW AND DOG?
A3 According to Lal kitab - an Astrological variation of the North, specifically
suggest feeding the crows for growth, prospects and comfortable job, it also
suggest feeding the dogs especially to have good relations with the children and
even to beget a child there is an `upaya` or pariharam where the dog comes into
it.
I have read Lal Kitab, but many items vary from Parasara Hora. Hence, to avoid
confusion I started concentrating on Parasara Hora
Thirdly, feeding the cows with greens is also suggested for good family
relations.
One of the most important problem of today is good relationship with children.
With out knowing these beliefs I was feeding dogs and continue to do so.
Q3 WHAT IS KAMYOPANAYANA?
A3 The Upanayana is sometimes performed when the boy is only five years old.
This is called `Kaamyopanayana', `Kaamya' meaning in pursuance of a desire. Such
early upanayana is all right if we want the child to develop inwardly at an
early age.
Aadi Shankara's upanayana, it is believed, was performed when he was five years
old. If the child is extraordinarily intelligent and can articulate words
properly, his upanayana can be performed at five years
Q4WHY DO GODESS LEKSHMI IS DRESSED IN RED?

the active energy of Vishnu, and also appears as Lakshmi-Narayan - Lakshmi
accompanying Vishnu.
Q5 DO SARASWATHI IS THE DAUGHTER OF LORD SIVA? WHAT IS VASANTHA PANCHAMI?
A5 Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom, art and music is the daughter of Lord Shiva
and Goddess Durga.
(I am not forgetting the variation- Initially it was River Saraswathi and later
we started personifying her.)
The colour yellow is given special importance on Vasant Panchami. On this day,
Saraswati is dressed in yellow garments and worshipped.
The great Indian guru Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya laid the foundations of the
world-class academic institution of Kashi Hindu Vishwa Vidyalaya on Vasant
Panchami.
As a practice, only educated people and men of principle worship goddess
Saraswati for spiritual enlightenment. In their opinion, there can be no
comparison between the king and the learned or the spiritually advanced. The
king is honoured within his kingdom, whereas the learned is respected or
worshipped throughout the world.
Q6 DO CARNATIC MUSIC IS ORGINATED FROM SAMA VEDA?
A6 Carnatic music derives its origin and root to Sama -Veda and is supposed to
be the music of Gods. Reference to Veena and Mirundagam may be seen in  many 6
puranic texts. The Sruthi or sound of the Mirudang originated from Nandi, the
Sacred Bull of Lord Shiva. Saraswathy the God of learning and fine  arts   is
the first player of Veena.

Q8 DO TODAY WHAT WE SAY AS I AM SREEVATSA GOTHRA MEAN ACTUALLY GOTHRA?
A8 No is the answer. Answer is a little bit elaborate
The word "gothra" means "lineage" in the Sanskrit language. Among those of the
Brahmin caste, gotras are reckoned patrilineally.
Each gothra takes the name of a famous Rishi or sage who was the patrilineal
forbearer of that clan. And each Gothra is addressed by the suffix 'sa' or 'asa'
as relevant.
The concept of Gothra was the first attempt among Brahmins to classify
themselves among different groups. At the beginning, these gentes identified
themselves by the names of various rishis (Angirasa, Atri, Gautam, Kashyapa,
Bhrigu, Vasishtha, Kutsa, and Bharadvaja; the first seven of these are often
enumerated as Saptarishis).
There is also variation about saptharshies.
It is to be noted that Vishwamitra was initially a Kshatriya king, who later
chose and rose to become an ascetic rishi. Hence the gothra was applied to the
grouping stemming from one of these rishis as his descendants.
Hence it means there could only be 8 Gothras. Today we have more than 40
gothras. How is it?
Accordingly, the major gotras were divided into ganas (subdivisions) and each
gana was further divided into groups of families. The term gothra was then
frequently started being applied to the ganas and to the sub-ganas.
Every Brahmin claims to be a direct patrilinial descendant of one of the
founding rishis of a certain gana or sub-gana. IT IS THE GANA OR SUB-GANA THAT
IS NOW COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GOTHRA.
Q9 NOW THERE ARE A NUMBER OF GOTHRAS. HOW DID THIS CAME UP?
A9 Over the years, the number of gothras increased due to: Descendants of
original rishi also started new family lineage or new gothras,
By inter marriage with other sub-groups of the same caste, and inspired by
another rishi whose name they bear as their own gothra.
Q10 WHAT ACTUALLY IS PRAVARA? DO IT MEAN IMPORTANT SAGES IN THE GOTHRA?
A10 It can be the same mostly. It can be the lineage saints  also.
Pravara is the number of the most excellent (-cf. reference, Sanskrit-English
Dictionary, Monier-Williams) rishis who belonged to that particular gothra to
which a person belongs.
In Vedic ritual, the importance of the pravara appears to be in its use by the
ritualist for extolling his ancestry and proclaiming, "as a descendant of worthy
ancestors, I am a fit and proper person to do the act I am performing."
Q11* CAN YOU PRACTICALLY SEE ANY TRAITS AMONG BRAHMINS BELONGING TO SAME GOTHRA?
A11 Although people belonging to the same gothra are, in theory, related to each
other patrilineally, and belong to the same Brahmin caste, there may be very
little else in common between them.
Probably Supreme Court introduced law permitting such marriages on account of
this?
Q12* AN IMPORTANT QUESTION- WHETHER ALMS CAN BE GIVEN FROM THE PREPARATIONS FOR
THE ANCESTORS?
A12 According to Parasara smriti  If a beggar arrives when a Brahmin household
is offering sacrifices for  the solace of his deceased ancestors, the Brahmin
must divide the  cereals in two parts and should reserve one to make offerings
and donate   the other as alms to the beggar.
Do we follow it? If at all any beggar arrives, normally money is given and sent.
I have read Mandana misra had closed gates and performing sraadha when
Sankaracharya arrived and he trespassed and entered.

Q13** WHAT IS CHANDRAYAN VRATA?
A13 According Parasarasmrithi A man who has relations with other women than his
wife, can get purified only by observing Chandrayan Vrata (a fast devoted to the
moon
So such relations were there even during Parasara's period.

Q14**  AN INTERESTING QUESTION- IS IT NECESSARY FOR A WOMEN KEEP SEPARATE IF SHE COMES IN MENSES WITH IN EIGHTEEN DAYS?

A14  According Parasarasmrithi If a woman comes in menses within eighteen days
of the previous one, taking a bath can purify her.

In most of our houses  a slight modification only is done- days are changed from
18 to 28 and exclusion from pooja room is added.

Q1 HOW DO NAMPOOTHIRIES RELATED WITH TEMPLES?
A1 Some   prominent temples in India have a Nambudiri priest as the Head
Tantri, like Badrinath, Mookambika Temple in Kollur, Pashupatinath Temple in
Kathmandu, etc and even Nagerkovil in Tamilnadu.
Thanthri: Nambuthiris follow Thanthra vidhi while doing poojas   in temples. The
pooja by Thanthram consists of actions by hand also, where as Tamil Brahmin
Gurukals follow mainly Manthra vidhi.
Tanthri stands first in the hierarchy of priests who is well versed in Thanthras
science and art of temple worship. Thanthris have to perform the incredible task
of transferring (Aavaahanam) Chaithanyam of God and energizing the idol as per
the techniques described in the Aagamams. In Guruvayur, though the Keezh Santhi
can enter the Garbhagriham, he   cannot touch the deity. Only the Thanthri,
Ottikan and Mel Santhi   have the privilege to touch the Lord.

Q4 IS IT CORRECT THAT THOSE WHO ARE RECEIVING THE DAKSHINA CAN ACCEPT THEM ONLY
BY RECITING A PRESCRIBED MANTRA?
A4 Yes. Those who are receiving the DakshiNa can accept them only by reciting a
prescribed mantra. This mantra names Angeeras. The Vedas stipulate that anyone
receiving DakshiNa should invariably utter the name of Angeeras enshrined in
this mantra.
The point is that any stigma attaching to the acceptance of DakshiNa will not
affect the recipient, if he accepts uttering this mantra.
Then, where will it go? Will it taint Angeeras? Yes. It will.  But, before it
could reach Angeeras, it will be decimated and incinerated.
How?  It is because Angeersa is himself fire (anala) that devours everything.
The sin is also consumed by the firepower of Angeeras.
This is a valid question. Those who receive DakshiNai in yaagas, if they mediate
and chant the name of Rishi Aangeerasas, he would through his powers ward off
the ill effects attaching to the act of receiving DakshiNai.
It is with this in mind that Rig Veda mantram proclaims:
yE yagjnEna dakshiNayaa samaktaa: Angeerasa:
which means that Rishi Angeeras is there always to protect the person receiving
DakshiNai

Q5  IF ANYONE  NOT SURE ABOUT HIS GOTHRA HOW CAN HIS GOTHRA SPECIFIED?
A5 If one does not know or forgets ones GOtra, Dharma texts recommend the
adoption of the GOtra of the great Rishis Jamadagni or Kaasyapa.
SvagOtra pravara ajgjnaanE Jamadagnim UpaasrayEt / NirNayasindu
Gotra naase Tu kasyapa:. Kasyapa gOtrasya Sarva saadhaaraNatvaat /
(Smriti Chandtrika p.398) ( I have not read- Just from the net)
This is because the major Gotras are divided into minor subdivisions known as
gaNas and gaNas themselves are further subdivided into lineages. The term Gotra,
however, is often used to refer to the major Gotras, as also to gaNas and even
these lineages.

Q8 DO VYASA GAVE  HIS POWER  TO KING DASARATHA ALSO?
A8 King Dasaratha  could drive his chariot in all the 10 directions. That is why
he came to be known as Dasa+ratha.

The Taittiriya Brahmana states that Indra chose her for his wife from a number

Q16*HOW DO THE PHRASE GOOD NIGHT SLEEP TIGHT ORIGINATED?
A16 In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes.  When

honeymoon.
So father in Law could very well offer Liquor to son in Law.  Now too in Kerala
when military people come, what is most expected by related elders is bottle!!!

A1 In Hinduism, the Astomi were an ancient legendary race of people who had no
need to eat or drink anything at all. They survived by smelling apples and
flowers.
Megasthenes has mentioned these people in his Indica. He located them at the

and no mouths. When travelling they used to carry roots, flowers and apples to
smell. They could die by smelling an unpleasant smell.

Q18 DO OUR BODY GET PARALYSED DURING REM SLEEP?
A18 Yes. This paralysis is caused by the release of glycine, an amino acid, from
the brain stem onto the motoneurons (neurons that conduct impulses outward from
the brain or spinal cord).
Because REM sleep is the sleep stage at which most dreaming takes place, this
paralysis could be nature's way of making sure we don't act out our dreams.
Otherwise, if you're sleeping next to someone who is dreaming about playing
kickball, you might get kicked repeatedly while you sleep.

Q19 CAN DREAM OCCUR IN NON-REM SLEEPS ALSO?

Q6 WE KNOW ABOUT RASALILA OF GOPIS WITH KRISHNA IN BRINDAVAN. QUESTION-APART
FROM RADHA WHO WAS THE NEXT VIP GOPIKA?
A6 She was Chandravali. The Padma Purana mentions eighteen thousand gopis among
whom 108 are most important. Among those 108, eight are considered more
important. Among the eight, two have a special position, CANDRAVALI AND

Q8 WHAT WAS THE ROLE OF PARVATHI IN BRINGING GANGA TO THE WORLD?
A8 The Gods pleaded Bhagirath's cause to Ganga, but the Divine Lady was adamant.
She had no desire to leave the heavens and, if compelled she would destroy the
earth. The gods were helpless and advised Bhagirath to go to Shiva, the Lord
Destroyer, who, if he wished, could prevent the threatened destruction.
As the matter was of considerable gravity, Bhagirath prayed Parvati, Shiva's
wife, for her help. Parvati convinced Shiva to receive the powerful torrents
unleashed by the tempestuous goddess on his head and divide the fall of the
waters into a myriad of streams through his hair. After which, it was relatively
easy to guide the river to the center of the earth, revive the 60,000 dead
ancestors of Bhagiratha and lead Ganga to the ocean.
Q9 HAS THE DESCENT OF GANGA IS EPICTED IN STONE CUT ANYWHERE?
A9 The story of the descent of the Ganga is told in the stones of MAHABALIPURAM,
near Madras, on the southeastern coast
Q10 WHEN DO THE STOMACH PAIN STARTED TO MELPATHUR NARAYA BHATTATHIRI?
A10 I had recently wrote about Poonthanam Nampoothiri and Melpathur Narayana
Bhattathiri. Poonthaanam who had lesser vilpathi in Sanskrit who approached
Bhattathiri for correction &advice regarding his Malayalam poem Jnana Pana.
(Verse "Padmanabho maraprobho" is in this poem) But Melpathoor rejected it
because it was not a Sanskrit work. At that very night stomach pain started for
him.
Q11HOW DID SAKUNTHALA LOST THE RING?
A11 On the way to the Kingdom of Dushyanta   entourage she had to cross a river,
which they did by hiring a canoe. Thrilled by the pristine emerald blue waters,
Shakuntala could not resist wading her fingers through them. Unknowingly the
ring given to her by Dushyanta slipped off into the river and lost in her bliss.
Q12 WHAT IS THE STORY OF VIDURA'S WIFE SULABHA GIVING SKINS OF PLANTAIN TO LORD
KRISHNA AND THAT TOO IN A HALF DRESSED FORM?
A12 Sulabha wife of Vidura was also a chaste woman of supreme order (Vidura is
the son born to Vedavyasa with servant maid and as such brother of Pandu and
Dhritharashtra. She too had a high degree of devotion and abdication.
When Lord Krishna visited Hastinapur as an emissary of Pandavas, he had not
accepted Duryodhana's request to stay in his palace but instead he chose to stay
at Vidura's home and accepted a simple meal there.
When Lord Krishna reached Vidura's home, Sulabha was taking her bath. Staying
out of door, Lord Krishna called Vidura. Vidura was not at home then. Because of
having a paucity of clothes, she was bathing with small cloths.
Suddenly she heard the Lord call out: "Open the door. I am Krishna here. I am
hungry."
Hearing this call, Sulabha forgot her condition and like a mad woman ran and
opened the door She remembered only one thing: "I am Krishna; I am hungry".
Bringing Krishna in, she made him sit on an inverted wooden seat (Peetha), and
fetched some bananas to feed him. She herself peeled the bananas but instead of
offering the pulp, she gave the skin and threw away the pulp. Lord Krishna
starves for love only! It is his promise also.
PATRAM PUSHPAM PHALAMTOYAM YO ME
BHAKTYA PRAYACHHATI |
TADAHAM NHAKTYUPADHTAMSHNAMI
PRAYATATMANAH ||(Geeta: (/26)
Thus the Lord began to eat the banana skin relishing it. Both of them were sunk
in affection- Sulabha in giving, while Lord Krishna sank in imbibing that love.
They both were in a trance like condition. Meanwhile, Vidura too arrived.
For sometime he stood amazed then seeing his wife behaving in an absurd way, he
scoffed at her. Sulabha thus came around and began to feel sorry.
Lord Krishna said to Vidura: "Vidurji, you have come at the wrong moment. I was
having extreme joy. I have always been pining for such food that is filled with
love. Thereafter Vidura himself began to feed Lord Krishna with banana pulp.
Q13 WHAT WAS THE GROUND ARJUNA REJECTED TO MARRY UTTARA? TO WHOM SHE WAS
MARRIED?
A13 Once the reality of the Pandavas was fully revealed, the king Virat felt
sorry for the way in which they were treated for the past one-year (Anjatha
vasam). With the purpose of converting their brief stay into an eternal
friendship, the king Virat proposed to marry his daughter, princess Uttara to
Arjuna.
With lot of seriousness, Arjuna replied that as he had trained Uttara in dancing
and music, he now regarded her as his own daughter. Princess Uttara too had
regarded him as a venerable teacher. "So to avert every kind of public slander,
I propose to accept her as the wife of my son, Abhimanyu.
It would be a matter of pride for you also to have the son of Lord Krishna's
sister Subhadra as your son-in-law", said Arjuna.
(My note- this story shows in those days of Dwapara Yuga too a person having a
son in marriageable age used to marry again)

Q1 EVERY BODY KNOW KARNA WAS BORN TO   PRINCESS KUNTI FROM SUN GOD WHILE SHE
SIMPLY TESTED THE EFFACACY OF THE  MANTRA ADVICED BY SAGE DURVASA. WHAT WAS THE
COMPELLING CIRCUMSTANCE   SUN GOD TO HAVE A RELATION WITH KUNTI?
A1 Like a child with a new toy, Kunti was excited and wanted to test the
efficacy of the 'mantra' advised  by sage Durvasa.  So she chanted it and
thought of the sun god. The sun god immediately appeared before her eyes and
Kunti.
Being shy chaste and unmarried at the time, she got panicked. SURYA COULD NOT
LEAVE WITH OUT HAVING A RELATION WITH HER  BECAUSE OF THE VARAM. So Soorya
assured her that though she would have a child by him but  she would remain a
virgin maiden. The child was born in due course of time, and Kunti placed him in
a box on the waters of the Ganges River. The child was later found by the
charioteer, Adiratha who brought him up as his own son, and he was known as
Karna.
Q2 DO HIDUMBI WAS PREVIOUSLY AN APSARA AND WAS CURSED BY INDRA'S WIFE SACHI
DEVI? WHAT IS THE STORY?
A2 Yes. One night, while Bhima was standing guard over his sleeping family, a
'raksasa' who dwelled in that part of the forest by the name Hidimba sent his
sister Hidimbi to lure Bhima away, so Hidimba could kill and eat him,
considering Bhima's body size a feast of a meal.
This Hidimbi was previously an 'apsara' in Indra's treasury, but having some
affair with Indra, Sacidevi, Indra's consort, cursed her to become an ugly
demoness.
When Hidimbi saw Bhima she felt an extreme desire for him. She changed her
appearance into that of a beautiful young damsel, and desiring Bhima for her
husband, she came before him and told him her desires, and her brother's wish to
kill him. Later Bhima killed Hidumba.
Hidimbi pleaded to Kunti that due to her heart being given to Bhima out of
affection that she had already accepted him as her husband, even though he had
killed her brother, so now she wanted the blessings of Kunti that they could
unite as she desires. But Bhimasena turned a deaf ear to the appeals of both
Kunti and Yudhisthira.
Finally Bhima agreed to the arrangements, on the condition that Bhima will
return to them to protect Pandavas after a child was born to Hidimbi.
Hidimbi explained that she would now return to her natural form, which was in
fact possessed of an aspect of Bharati Devi the consort of Mukhyaprana, and so
it was all right for her to feel this way towards Bhima.
To demonstrate her mystic powers of knowing the future Hidimbi mentioned to
Bhima that tomorrow Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of Lord Krishna
would come to this forest abode and would give her hand in marriage to her lord,
Bhimasena.
And as foretold by her, full of all auspicious qualities personified Srila
Vyasadeva appeared before them, and glancing at the Pandavas, Mother Kunti and
the beautiful consort to be of Bhima's, Vyasa glanced over them all with His
lotus eyes, and smiled with great affection. The Pandavas then worshipped their
'Guru' and rendered service to Him.
Hidimbi also offered her obeisance's to Srila Vyasadeva; looking at her He
addressed Bhima, "...this girl is the crest jewel of Sidonga Loka... marry her".
After the exchange of garlands, to everyone's surprise Hidimbi picked up Bhima,
placed him upon her shoulders and flew into the sky.
They then spent their time in amorous pursuit in the sky and on mountain tops,
and celestial gardens by the arrangement of Hidimbi's mystic powers, and they
returned that evening, but due to being in the heavenly planets six months had
passed here on Earth.
In due course of time a child was born to them who was named Ghatokacha,
actually he was an aspect of Rudra, a celestial being named Niryati.
This child was quite unique the word 'ghata' in his name refers to the size and
shape of his head, 'ghata' means a pot, and 'otkata' means on who has hair
standing on end, which he had.
Immediately he became full grown, and, staying with his mother in the forest
after the Pandavas departure, he told Bhima that if ever he needed him, all he
had to do was call his name, and he would come to that place.
When Bhima rejoined the other Pandavas, Hidimbi returned to the heavenly planet,
'swarga'.
My note- I hope this may be a curious QA for many.
Q3 WHEN DID MAHABHARATA STORY WAS TELESCREENED?
A 3 Lord Krishna was introduced on TV in 1987 with B.R. Chopra's mega
mythological show "Mahabharata". If I recollect it was telecast on Doordahan

A4 According to a legend, Sita Devi, the holy consort of Lord Rama, came down to
frolic in the lake and the place came to be spoken about as `Devikulam' (meaning
the lake of the goddess), ever since.
Many believe in the curative powers of the mineral water of the lake. It is
believed that goddess Sita had bathed in the waters of this lake making it
sacred for the pilgrims that visit Devikulam.
Q5 DO THE DOCTORS QUALIFIED IN NEPHROLOGY ARE VERY LESS IN INDIA?
A5 Yes. As for kidney specialists, the US has more nephrologists of Indian
origin than India has.
India has only 60 seats for nephrology,' ' said a Ban galore-based surgeon, who
has been   fighting for transparent admission procedures in admissions to
graduate and post-graduate seats.
I do not know more about the truth of the above. How ever nephrologists are rare
and they charge high. My nephrologist in KMH charges Rs 350-00 for a
consultation of about 10 minutes maximum.

Q6 IS IT CORRECT THAT THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE IN VARUNA JAPA SHOULDNOT TAKE SALTY

A10. Yes. The coffee served at M.T.R. coffee board in Bangalore  had a pride in
it since it used to be served only silver tumblers and dabara. People used to
rush to this hotel just for this sake. Visiting  MTR with guests from outside
Bangalore was an event by itself. " Innaikku naangal MTR poromaakkum." For most
of the morning walkers in Lal-bagh, the walk culminates with a cup of coffee at
the MTR.
Q11 IS IT GOOD TO PERFORM SANDHYA VANDANAM OUTSIDE?
A11 If Sandhyavandanam is done outside, the suitable places are Banks of a
river/pond, temple, in the morning below Ashwatha tree, in front of
Sun/Moon.
The benefits that one can reap by doing the Sandhyavandanam in different

technical development the ban was lifted during Mrs. Indira Gandhi period. On
those days it was told radio waves couldn't transmit the Harmonics.
Q13 DO THE KERALITE VADUKAPPULI LEMON PICKLE IS VERY GOOD FOR WOMEN?
A13 Yes is the answer. This Achar Narangai, made into Achar and if taken
regularly by our ladies, will cure all problems they experience due to Hormonal
changes taking   place in their Metabolism. Headache, stomach disorder and
flashes  (lightning)  all these symptoms occurring at one and the same time,
which has no cure in the known medical science.
Q14 WHY DO WE HAVE INTENSE FAITH IN THE POWER OF AGNI?
A14 This could perhaps be attributed   to the early reliance of man on the power
of fire. From the earliest   times fire had the ability to provide warmth and
security as well as   inspire a feeling of awe.
To mankind it was perhaps the greatest   discovery and gave him the supermacy
over the animals.
With this   background the fire is worshipped in many cultures around the world.
From the Greek Goddess Vesta to Kagutsuchi-no- Kami the Japanese God of fire
the worship is almost universal.
The greeks tell the tale of Prometheus    who stole fire from the Gods and gave
it to the men.
According to indian Mythology Agni is  believed to be thrice born-in heaven as
the sun, in the atmosphere as  lightning and on earth as fire
Q15 WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND AGNI'S  ABILITY TO PURIFY ALL OBJECTS?
A15 The story to this belief is given in brief as follows. Sage  Bhrigu one day
abducted a young girl who was betrothed to an Asura. The Asuras Knowing Agni had
access to all places on earth and beyond  requested his help in this matter.
Agni being truthful told the Asuras  about the girl's whereabouts.
Bhrigu was angry with Agni. However when Agni convinced  him that he was obliged
to speak the truth Bhrigu granted him the   dispensation of being able to purify
everything. It is this role of Agni   that is worshipped for today.
He is the purifier who is thus a central figure at all solemn ceremonies. But no
matter what the myth and tales the fact remains that fire has been critical
factor in the development  of man and is worshipped in many forms all over the
world.
In India no worship or prayer is complete without Agni the Fire-God. Agni sakshi
is important for all samskaras. In temples agni is kept burning  in the sanctum
of the temples in addition to Keadavilakku in many temples. Agni hotiries keep
Agni burning in their houses and the same is used till his antyeshti.
My note- there are different variations for this story. Instead of sage Indra is
told. Instead of Asura, a Yaksha is told ……

Q1 DO THERE IS TWO TYPES OF GANDHARVAS?
A1 Yes. Gandharva in general refers to a species of heavenly musicians. There
are two categories of gandharvas mentioned in these verses. The first is the
manushya gandharvas - or human gandharvas, and the second is the deva gandharvas
- or heavenly gandharvas.
( Probably it was Manushya Gandharva appearing in the Malayalam  film Jnan
Gandharvan by Padmarajan)
According to the Vedic conception of reality there are 64 dimensions of
existence, of which ordinary humans interact with three. The manushya gandharvas
live in higher dimensions within the earthly realm of existence.
Also the palace of Yudhishthira was created by yakshas, who exist on higher
dimensions.
The artwork they made for the palace (paintings, carpets, ceiling, etc.) was
actually animated and in three dimensions. So much so that it was not possible
to distinguish it from reality.
Q2 WHY DID DURYODHANA SILIPPED IN POND IN YUDHISTIRA'S PALACE AT HASTHINAPURAM?
A2 For those who exist in three dimensions, a painting will be done in two
dimensions.
But for those existing in four dimensions, a painting will be done in three
dimensions.
This is why Duryodhana was confused when he entered Yudhishthira's palace, and
ended up stepping in a pond, thinking it was the floor.
My doubt- If so it could have been the same for Pandavas also?
Q3 WHY DID SAGE SUKRACHARYA SUGGESTED BALI MAHARAJA TO RULE INDRALOKA AFTER
DEFEATING THE DEVAS BUT NOT TO SIT ON INDRA'S THRONE?
A3 The enjoyment of Indra may be higher than that of the controlling demigods,
but his duration of stay is much shorter. By sitting on the seat of Indra one
burns up all of one's pious results at a very rapid pace.
For this reason Shukracharya (the spiritual master of the demons) instructed
Bali Maharaja to rule Indraloka after defeating the demigods but not to sit on
Indra's throne. For if he sat on Indra's throne his punya would finish and he
would lose his position very quickly.
Q4 FROM WHO SUKRACHARYA ACQUIRED THE SECRETS OF MRITASANJIVANI?
A4 Shukracharya did a severe penance for five thousand years to please Shiva and
acquire the secrets of Mritasanjivani Viddya (bringing back dead person alive)
from him.
Lord Shiva became very pleased with his penance. He manifested from the very
Shivalinga, Shukracharya had been worshipping till now. He taught the secrets of
'Mritasanjivani' viddya to him and told him that by the help of this viddya he
would become capable of making alive the dead persons. Lord Shiva also blessed
Shukracharya to become a star and attain respectability among all the planets.

'Shweta-Kalp', Ganesha was born to Shiva and Parvati, when they went to Kailash
Mountain shortly after their marriage.
Lord Shiva and Parvati were very impressed by his intelligence. They decided to
get him married with Siddhi and Riddhi-the daughter of Vishwaroop Prajapati. In
due course of time two sons were born to them Kshem and Labh.
Q7 WHAT IS THE MYTHOLOGICAL DETAILS PERTAINING TO BIRTH OF MAINA, SITA AND
RADHA?
A7 King Daksha had sixty daughters; 'Swadha' was one of them and was married to
the Pitras. In due course of time three daughters were born to them - Mania,
Dhanya and Kalawati.
Once all the three of them went to Swetadweepa to have a darshan of lord
Vishnu. Right then, sages like Sanak, Sanadan etc arrived there. Everybody
present there stood up in reverence, but Maina, Dhanya and Kalawati could not
identify whom they were and hence they remained sitting. Not only that, they did
not even make any salutations to them. The sages became angry and cursed them to
be born as humans in their next birth.
Maina, Dhanya and Kalawati became very afraid and requested to be pardoned.
Sages Sanak feeling pity on them told that Maina would become the wife of
Himavan, in her next birth and give birth to Parvati, Similarly Dhanya would be
married to king Janak and Sita would be their daughter, similarly Kalawati would
be married to Vrishbhan and Radha would be born to them. Sage Sanak also told
them, that in this way all three of them would attain to the heaven.
I have included this question for the information-Dhanya was the wife of King
Janaka. Kalavati was the mother of Radha Rani
Q8 EVERY BODY KNOW ABOUT DAKSHA AND HIS DAUGHTER SATI AND RELATED STORIES WHO
WAS THE MOTHER OF SATI?

famous of Uma and got Rudra as her husband on account of her tremendous
penance."

AND DETAILS OF THE TEMPLE CONSTRUCTED BY HER?
A9 It is said that Emperor Ashoks daughter Charumati constructed a   Ganesha
Temple in Nepal.
Q10 WHAT IS THE SPECIALITY OF MODAKESWAR TEMPLE AT NASIK?
A10: Cursed by Lord Shiva, Kamdeva attained his original form by worshipping
Shri Ganesha at Modakeshwar temple in Nasik. It is also popular by the name
Kamvarad Mohotkat. This idol is in the form of a modak. Modak means happiness
and one who gives happiness is Modakeshwar.
Those desirous of having sons are blessed with sons on worshipping this deity.
If Mahaganapati   is worshipped regularly it is said that marriages can be fixed
easily.
IF MAHAGANPATI IS PROPITIATED PROPERLY, IT IS SAID CONFLICTS BETWEEN HUSBAND AND
WIFE COME TO AN END.
Q12 EVERY BODY KNOWS ABOUT SRIKRISHA AND HIS PRINCIPAL WIFE RUKMINI. NAME THEIR

Q13 NAME THE KING WHO FORCIBLY TOOK SURABHI/ KAMDHENU FROM SAGE JAMADAGNI
A13 The king was Arjun. Arjun arrived at the hermitage of Jamadagni. Sage
Jamdagni   treated the king with due honour and respect. He presented numerous
gifts to the king. Arjun wanted nothing else but the Surabhi-cow   from Sage
Jamdagni, which he was unwilling to part away with.
Ultimately, Arjun forcibly took away the divine cow. The cow was   unwilling to
go along with Arjun and she attacked his army with her sharp horns. As a result,
Arjun's whole army was liquidated within no time. The revengeful Arjun killed
Jamadagni. At the time of this     incident Parasu Ram his son was not present
in the hermitage. Some times the king is also told as kartha veerarjuna.

I have got the details of the QA from some Vaishnavite web site. Three things
are clear from it 1. Gothra principle was there during Thetha Yuga 2. No Gothra
change is there/ was there in the manthras even in Thretha Yuga. 3. Ahalaya
moksham was before the wedding.
