THENNANGUR TEMPLE VISIT

OUR VISIT TO THENNANGUR VITTAL KRISHNA TEMPLE

As planned on 22nd september 2008, PRLs and AVKs started our journey to thennangur temple. On the way at Tiruvallore AVKs had some personal work.We left early morning from T. Nagar via KK Nagar and porur. Instead of taking the route via ambattur, avadi we took the poonamalle route. On the way we stopped at HIGHWAY restaurant for our breakfast. We took the road proceeding to Tirupati via tiruvallore. On the way we inquired the location where we wanted to go viz veppampatti and proceeded via small villages with kutcha road. Finally we hit on the highway from the other side and reached the destination.
After completing the work there we proceeded to Tiruvellore. On the way we had our lunch at HOTEL VIMA the regular joint for all TIRUPATI tourists. That day there was heavy shortage for diesel and we took diesel from a wayside shop and proceeded further.
Our road travel is through Tiruvallore, Tiruttani, Kancheepuram and vandavasi. At Kancheepuram we stopped for our afternoon tea. We reached the THENNAGUR TEMPLE inquiring on the way by around 4-30 pm. We can also reach the place via Chinglepet, Dindivanam, Vandavasi route.
The temple is located in a village. The atmosphere is really clean. First we were asked to go to the Ashram of Swami Gynananda and Haridas where 32 idols of devi are kept and pooja performed. It was really good. Here the males have to remove their shirts and banians to enter. After this we went to the main temple which is opposite to the ashram.
It was built in north indian style gopuram. The diety with goddess was dressed up differently each day. i.e viz. on Saturday like Tirupati Balaji and Padmavati, some days like Radhe Krishna etc. We did pooja there. Here also males have to remove the shirts and banians to enter the temple. The stories are depicted in art form in the inner walls and are painted. The whole atmosphere was quie, may be because we went on a non crowded days; since we saw barricades erected for the queue.
Next to the temple there is a hall where discourses are held and one such discourse was going on that date. There are also accommodations available and family / single can stay as long as on wishes free of charge; food is also free. Only donations, if given, are accepted.
We did think for a moment to stay back for the night and return next day. Finally it was decided against. We left the temple reluctantly around 6-30 p.m.
We travelled via dhindivanam, chinglepet. Via highway. Had our dinner at BRINDAVAN Restaurant in the highway, a regular joint for road travelers.and after dropping AVKs at KK Nagar reached T. NAGAR AT around 9-30 p.m.
Having experienced the journey and enjoyed the same, we decided to undertake a journey to PONDICHERY after taking a day rest..
